Rain Makes Me Feel is a short narrative documentary created for IAT 344, exploring how rain affects mood and memory. The film takes a reflective tone, weaving personal stories to show the emotional weight rain can carry. To shape the film’s atmosphere, we used a blend of live-action footage and stylized 3D animation. Our goal was to create a poetic, immersive experience that captured the subtle emotional impact of weather through both storytelling and visual design.
The film developed through several creative stages, including shot lists, storyboarding, and scripting. As the lead storyboard artist, I played a key role in shaping scene composition and mood, helping refine visuals until they aligned with our narrative goals. Each stage involved feedback and iteration, especially on mood boards, which guided lighting, tone, and visual pacing. Once approved, we moved into filming, continually revisiting our storyboard to ensure visual cohesion.
I was responsible for organizing production schedules, casting, and cinematography. I also led the visual planning as a storyboard artist, defining shot angles and transitions to support the film’s emotional rhythm. Additionally, I co-developed a Maya animation sequence, handling modeling, animation, and rendering, which became a key storytelling element that deepened the film’s message.
Balancing logistics with creative direction was a major challenge, especially with multiple moving parts and deadlines. Coordinating people and adjusting plans on the fly taught me how essential time management and adaptability are in filmmaking. I also learned how clear storyboarding early on can reduce confusion later in production. Most of all, this project showed me how powerful collaboration and clear vision can be when creating emotionally driven media.
